Each day throughout the 40 Days of Lent (from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday--excluding Sundays) I will post to this Lenten Blog. I will be using Joan Chittister's book, The Gift of Years: Growing Older Gracefully, as the cue for my daily entries. In that book she has 40 chapters--each one takes up a topic relevant to the question of what it means to grow gracefully with vs. to groan endlessly at the passing of our days.
I invite you to purchase the book and read along. You can get a copy through AMAZON (click here) or we have them available for purchase during Coffee Hour on Sundays.
In order to be notified each day when a new entry has been posted, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will add you to a list of folks to be notified daily. All you have to say in the subject line of your email is, "Please Notify."
Regardless of our age, we are all aging. Whether we are becoming wiser and more graceful, is another question altogether. Lent is a good time to recover a sense for the passing of our days...not in a way that is depressing, but mindful...not in a way that raises our sense of how fleeting time is but rather in a way that helps us to recover the fullness of time.
The Psalmist writes, "Teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart." (90:12)
Please, come along. Let us walk this season together and perhaps, by God's grace, we will gain some of the wisdom we need to move beyond counting our days to making our days count.
